RTP and Volatility Explained — What the Numbers Mean

Every game page at Aurion Casino lists an RTP percentage and a volatility level. This article explains what both terms actually mean and how to read them before you pick a game.

What Is RTP?

RTP stands for Return to Player. It's the percentage of all coins wagered on a game that are, on average, paid back out as wins over a very large number of rounds. A 95% RTP means that for every 100 coins wagered across many, many rounds, 95 coins come back as payouts on average. RTP is a long-run statistical average, not a promise about any single spin or session — you can win or lose far more than the RTP suggests in the short term, in either direction.

What Is Volatility?

Volatility (sometimes called variance) describes how wins are distributed, independent of RTP. Two games can share the same RTP and still feel completely different to play:

  • Low volatility. Wins are smaller but land more often. Your balance moves in small, frequent steps.
  • Medium volatility. A balance of win frequency and win size — regular small-to-medium wins with occasional larger ones.
  • High volatility. Wins are rarer but can be much larger when they land. Expect longer stretches with no win, punctuated by bigger payouts.

Aurion Casino's Games by RTP and Volatility

Highest RTP (97%): Crash and Dice — Crash is high volatility (rare huge multipliers), Dice is medium volatility with an adjustable win chance you set yourself.

96% RTP: Spin Wheel — medium volatility, fast rounds.

95% RTP, medium volatility: Plinko, MiniSlots, 4×4 Slots, Greek Gods Slot, Cyber Core, BloomSlots, and Desert Riches — steady sessions with regular wins.

95% RTP, high volatility: Inferno Wilds, Valhalla Gates, Book of the Nibelungen, and Dragon's Fortune — bigger cascade, scatter-pay, and Hold & Win features, with longer gaps between the big hits.

Which Should You Pick?

If you want your coin balance to last through a long, relaxed session with regular small wins, favour low-to-medium volatility games. If you're chasing the excitement of a big multiplier or a filled bonus grid and don't mind longer dry spells, high volatility games like Inferno Wilds or Dragon's Fortune fit better. RTP tells you the long-run average; volatility tells you how bumpy the ride is on the way there.
